On August 6, 2026, the IRS announced new and expanded features for eligible users of Business Tax Account, its online self-service portal for businesses and organizations.

The announcement (IR-2026-87) adds more ways to view notices, verify an employer identification number, review payment plans, and make certain payments online.

What the IRS Added

The IRS highlighted four recent improvements:

  • Access to a growing library of digital notices, including CP081B, CP211A, and CP134R
  • The ability for designated officials to download Notice CP575, which confirms a newly assigned employer identification number
  • The ability to view the balance and details of an existing payment plan and make a payment toward it
  • Eligible online payments for an Offer in Compromise, which can settle eligible tax debt for less than the full amount owed

The IRS says a downloaded CP575 can be used instead of requesting Letter 147C when EIN verification is needed by a bank or other financial institution.

Who Can Use Business Tax Account

Business Tax Account currently supports several types of eligible users and organizations, including:

  • Sole proprietors with an SSN or ITIN, an IRS-issued EIN, and a filed Schedule C or Schedule F; LLCs filing as sole proprietors are not yet eligible
  • Individual partners with an SSN or ITIN and a Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) on file for a supported tax year, currently 2012 through 2023
  • Individual S corporation shareholders with an SSN or ITIN and a Schedule K-1 (Form 1120-S) on file for a supported tax year, currently 2006 through 2023
  • S corporations and C corporations
  • Federal, state, local, and Indian tribal governments
  • Tax-exempt organizations

Access depends on the entity type and the user’s role. Not every feature is available to every account, so users should check the current requirements on the IRS Business Tax Account page.

Other Available Account Tools

Depending on eligibility and role, Business Tax Account can also let users:

  • View balances and make payments from a bank account
  • Schedule a payment up to one year in advance
  • Review recently processed or returned payments
  • Save multiple bank accounts in an online wallet
  • Request a tax compliance check
  • View the business name and address on file
  • Give account access to eligible employees
  • Download certain payroll, income, and excise tax transcripts

These tools can reduce the need to call the IRS or visit an office, but they do not replace the records a business must maintain.

Why It Matters for Schedule C Filers

A sole proprietor may be eligible for Business Tax Account with an SSN or ITIN, an IRS-issued EIN, and a filed Schedule C or Schedule F. LLCs that file as sole proprietors are not yet eligible. For eligible users, the portal can make it easier to check certain federal business-tax information and respond to available digital notices.

Keep in mind that estimated income tax and self-employment tax are generally individual obligations. Those payments may belong in an IRS Individual Online Account, rather than Business Tax Account. Review the payment type and IRS instructions before submitting anything.

Simple-C helps Schedule C filers organize income and expenses — so the bookkeeping records behind your federal tax filings stay clear and accessible.
